Gluten Free Pink Birthday Cake Milkshake

Updated: Jul 4

June is Colored in Flour's Birthday Month and to get this party started, I am celebrating with a Pink Birthday Cake Milkshake! ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŽ€

I decided to get this party started with a milkshake because I haven't had one in forever- and let me tell you- it is the perfect dessert to celebrate a birthday with! I think you'll find this to be one of the most delicious milkshakes you'll ever have!

If you have never made a milkshake before, get excited!! They are probably the easiest desserts you will ever make in your life. I mean, they are very simple to make and are very delicious! Sometimes, the best things in life are the simplest to make and the most enjoyable, and this recipe is exemplary of both simple and enjoyable, to say the least.

To make this milkshake, you will need:

๐ŸŽ€Electric Mixer or handheld mixer with whisk attachment

๐ŸŽ€1.5 cups (or 3 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

๐ŸŽ€3 cups powdered sugar

๐ŸŽ€2 tsp. vanilla extract

๐ŸŽ€Pastry Piping Bag

๐ŸŽ€Piping Tip 336

๐ŸŽ€Cookie dough scoop

๐ŸŽ€Blender

๐ŸŽ€One pint* of your favorite Vanilla Ice Cream (I used Hรคagen-Dazs Vanilla Ice Cream)- one pint will make enough for 1.5-2 servings depending on how big your glasses are, so if you need to make more, you will need a bigger tub of ice cream, or more than one pint

๐ŸŽ€Ice Cream Scoop

๐ŸŽ€1/4 cup whole milk

๐ŸŽ€Pink gel food color

๐ŸŽ€1/2 cup white chocolate baking chips or candy melts (Chocomaker is gluten free)

๐ŸŽ€4 small mixing bowls

๐ŸŽ€Confetti or rainbow sprinkles (or both!)

๐ŸŽ€Your favorite decorations (gluten free cookies, more sprinkles, lollipops, whipped cream, and more! Whatever you'd like to decorate your milkshake with)

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: First, make your buttercream (which will be blended into the milkshake). This is also what will make it taste like birthday cake... It's incredible!

In a standard mixer or mixing bowl, whip the butter on medium-high speed until white in color and creamy. Add the powdered sugar along with the vanilla extract and combine until smooth. Set aside 1/2 cup of frosting into the first small mixing bowl and another 1/2 cup buttercream into the second mixing bowl. Add pink gel food coloring to one of the bowls. Add confetti sprinkles to the pink buttercream and combine. Set aside both.

As far as the size of the milkshake glasses I used, I purchased a set of six 12 ounce glasses online that look like this:

STEP 2: Melt the white chocolate baking chips or candy melts in the third small mixing bowl for 30 seconds at a time on half power. Stir until completely melted. If necessary, add 1 tsp. of flavorless oil to help create a consistency of the chocolate or candy melts that is perfect for dipping.

STEP 3: In the fourth small mixing bowl, add your favorite mix of confetti or rainbow sprinkles. Dip the tops of the milkshake glasses into the bowl of melted candy melts and coat in sprinkles around the outer edges of the rim. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 minute per glass. Repeat for every glass.

If the candy melts harden, simply microwave them again for around 30 seconds again at half power until you have the perfect consistency again for dipping.

STEP 4: Next, scoop the pint of ice cream into the blender along with the milk and 1/4 cup of vanilla buttercream. Add a tiny drop of pink gel food coloring to the blender and combine just until you have a milkshake consistency (this doesn't take longer than just a few seconds). If you find it is too thick, simply add 1 tbsp. more of milk at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

STEP 5: Pour pink milkshake into the glasses. Pipe a small loop of vanilla confetti buttercream at the top (as seen below) using your pastry piping bag and piping tip:

STEP 6: Use your cookie dough scoop and scoop the pink confetti buttercream from the small mixing bowl and place at the top of the milkshake (you can also replace this step with whipped cream if you'd like, but the pink buttercream scoops look like ice cream and you'll find it looks super cute and fun!)

Here's what I mean by that: #YUM

STEP 7: Decorate however you'd like! Sprinkles, whipped cream, lollipops, gluten free cookies you have made or bought, birthday candles for a birthday, anything you so choose to decorate your milkshake with!

Serve and INDULGE!!
